Spring Wreath at Club KennyK

Today I am sharing some more DT inspiration for this month's challenge over at Club KennyK.  Have you joined in yet?  Don't forget, if you follow the rules you can request the challenge freebie and maybe win a prize.

Continuing the DT theme of 'Spring Flowers' I decided to make myself a wreath. This time I am using the oh-so-cute 'Farmer's Daughter', as living in the Prairies of Canada I thought she was perfect.
Michaels have a great selection of 'blank' wreaths to choose from so I decided on a grapevine wreath for the more rustic look.  I wound a ribbon all the way around and attached the flowers using their wires.  Lastly I coloured up the image, fussy cut her and glued her in place.
ProMarkers used - Burnt Sienna, Caramel, Dusky Pink, Satin, Walnut, Cocoa, Raw Sienna, Midnight, Denim, Powder, Gold, Tulip, Buttercup, Black, Olive, Moss, Sunkissed Pink, Pale Pink, Burnt Orange, Spice, Peach, Ginger, Saffron & Oatmeal

A Dark Undercurrent Shadow Box

Do you ever see an image you just have to have?  I felt like that with the Aurora Wings image 'A Dark Undercurrent'.  I love darker images and skulls, oh and mermaids!
I got her coloured up then wasn't sure what I was going to do with her.  Decided I wanted to keep her for myself though, so I've made a shadow box.  I found a template on Pinterest and worked my measurements from that.  I had to trim the image down a bit and not place it centrally, so not to lose too much. Having printed and coloured before deciding on a shadow box, I realised the box would be a little too small. I have used 12x12 card though which is the largest I have!! I think it still looks good though and I've only lost a little bit of her tail.
Product list:

  • Papermania cardstock
  • Collall Tacky Glue
  • Shells & sand (Michaels)
  • Gems
  • Acetate (Cuttlebug)
  • Distress Inks - Stormy Sky, Forest Moss & Dusty Concord
  • ProMarkers - Warm Grey 1-3, Coral, Sunkissed Pink, Dusky Pink, Midnight, Denim, Powder, Cardinal, Lipstick, Indigo, French Navy, Cobalt, Raw Sienna, Tulip, Canary, Forest, Apple, Pine, Cinnamon, Caramel, Sandstone, Satin, Turquoise & Cyan
  • Wink of Stella Clear

The image coloured up

Of course I had to use some glitter!

The shadow box cut out

Image glued into the box, and the box assembled

Sand, shells and gems placed into the box and an acetate window glued on (Oops, I forgot to photograph at this stage, so this is a close-up after hanging instead!)

Outer frame measured and cut, then Distress Inks blended on and sprayed with water

And finally the finished piece

I am entering my frame into the following challenges:

Mermaid Friendship

I am one of those guilty of having many images that I haven't used yet.  You win some then you win some more, but you have birthday cards and Christmas cards and DT cards to make and before you know it month's have gone by!
I really fancied making a shaker card, so decided to use the beautiful 'Lilies Commitment' from Ching-Chou Kuik that I won a while ago.  Lilies are my favourite flower and I thought this image would work well as a friendship card.

I started by colouring the image and fussy-cutting, then decided on a 5x7 card which I made from 350gsm white cardstock.  I cut a slightly smaller piece of dark blue GlitterSilk card to serve as the front of the shaker.  I positioned my image and sentiment to decide where to die cut a circle for the shaker portion. Once the circle was cut I placed it over the card base and pencilled in where it would be.  I coloured the base card with a matching ProMarker to serve as a background for the shaker window.
I then glued a circle of acetate to the window and added 3D foam tape around all the edges.   I put all my sequins and pearls within the coloured portion of the base card before adhering the window card.
I finished off by attaching the image and sentiment, plus some silver net and shells.

Product list:
  • White cardstock
  • Dark Blue Core'dinations GlitterSilk
  • X-Cut circle die
  • 3D foam tape
  • Cuttlebug acetate
  • Silver net
  • Pearls
  • Sequins (Walmart)
  • Shells (Michaels)
  • ProMarkers - Burnt Sienna, Coral, Sunkissed Pink, Blush, Burgundy, Mango, Soft Peach, Pine, Apple, Pumpkin, Amber, Olive, Pear, Black, Ginger, Saffron, Oatmeal, Mint, Tea Green, Sky Blue, Arctic Blue & Powder Blue

I am entering my card into the following challenges:

Sprite Flight

Spring is finally in the air here. Although it is still in the minus temperatures some mornings, it is now getting warm in the afternoon (unfortunately some snow and rain forecast for Easter though).
I won some Aurora Wings images and couldn't resist colouring up 'Butterfly Sprite' and 'Hibiscus Set' up to go together.  I wasn't sure what kind of card I was going to make with them, but luckily I found some inspiration over at the Power Poppy Blog.  They are using a few sketches for inspiration in their latest challenge, so I decided to have a go as I don't normally go by sketches.  I have used Sketch 3 and turned it 90°.
I've used a strip of acetate and a washer for weight to make the Butterfly Sprite 'fly' for a 3D effect.
Products I have used to create my card:
  • Card blank
  • Recollections & K&Co DP
  • X-Cut oval die
  • Acetate
  • Metal washer
  • ProMarkers - Magenta, Carmine, Cerise, Fuchsia, Pink Carnation, Blossom, Mulberry, Gold, Satin, Canary, Pine, Forest, Moss, Lime Green, Burnt Sienna, Caramel, Dusky Pink, Black, Cool Grey 5, Cocoa, Cinnamon, Sandstone, Mustard, Arctic Blue, Powder Blue, Saffron & Oatmeal

I've added a quick video from my phone to show the movement.

April Challenge at Crafting With An Attitude

It's time for a new challenge over at Crafting With An Attitude. Our sponsor this month is A Day For Daises and I'm sad to say that after this they will no longer be sponsoring any blog challenges. The winner will receive a $12 voucher to spend on anything in the store.
I had a birthday coming up for my friend's little girl back home, and I chose the perfect image for her. (I've been told that she thinks it's her in the picture, so a definite win!). 'Holding Fireflies with Wings' is actually a freebie in the shop that I downloaded a while ago and hadn't actually used yet. It's such a sweet image for a little girl. I dressed it up with a simple background of grass and sky.

  • Michael's Kraft card blank
  • Embossing folder (free from a magazine)
  • Spellbinders frame die
  • DoCrafts sticky ribbon
  • Yellow Ranger Stickles

Fearless Framed

I recently discovered The Fantasy Art of Molly Harrison, thanks to Alyce at Kit & Clowder using one of her images for a monthly class, and I've totally fallen in love.  Her style of fairy wings is so beautiful and all the images are very detailed.  She has colouring books as well as digital stamps and there are even quite a few free colouring pages on the website.
I needed a gift for my neighbour and decided to colour up one of the images (called 'Fearless') to frame for him.  (I was originally going to use this for his card, but decided I loved it so much I had to frame it!).
I was going for a suede look on the clothing and tried a different colour combo than I normally use in the browns.  I'm so pleased with how it turned out.

The frame is from Michaels and the ProMarkers I've used to colour the image are: Cinnamon, Tan, Dusky Pink, Satin, Burgundy, Crimson, Cardinal, Walnut, Cocoa, Raw Sienna, Cyan, Duck Egg, Cool Aqua, Canary, Lemon, Soft Lime, Blush, Pine, Forest, Bright Green, Cool Grey 1 & 2, Indigo, Midnight, Cobalt & Sky Blue. I finished off with some white Sakura Gelly Roll.

I am entering my art into the following challenges:
